Morning Announcements - Monday, February 5, 2018


The Firelands challenge match that was scheduled for today has been rescheduled for tomorrow.


The boys varsity basketball team won Saturday night against Oak Harbor with a score of 44 to 43. Bryce Roberts made the go ahead free throw with 4 seconds remaining, and Gavin Schaeffer's steal sealed the victory. The boys were led by Bryce Roberts and James Hill, who both had 14 points and Carson Ehrhardt, who added 8 points in addition to a great defensive effort.


The JV boys basketball lost a hard fought game to Oak Harbor Saturday night with a score of 54-47.  The Chargers were led in scoring by Seth Thompson with 17 points.  JV boys play PC and South Central this weekend at home.


The freshman boys’ basketball team improved their record to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference by beating Huron Thursday 36-33 and defeating Oak Harbor on Saturday by a score of 34-29.  Patrick McManus lead all Scorers against Huron with 13 while Grant Ott put up 10 points.  Dylan O’Dell led all scorers against Oak Harbor with 16 points and was a perfect 10 of 10 from the foul line.  The boys next game is at home on Friday against Port Clinton.


The varsity girls basketball team improved their record to 11 and 8 with a 52 to 42 victory over Port Clinton Friday night. Mariah Medina led the attack with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Alana Fidler recorded a "double-double" with 13 points and 10 rebounds and added 4 assists. Hannah Vitaz contributed 11 points and 4 rebounds.


The junior varsity girls basketball team improved their record to 12 and 7 with a 37 to 10 victory over Port Clinton. Lilli Schuster paced the attack with 11 points and 5 steals, while Katelyn Chenevey added 7 points and hauled down 10 rebounds. Jayla Medina tossed in 7 points and Deana Blatnik added 5 points.


The Lady Charger varsity girls basketball team is back in action tomorrow night at St. Paul. Tip-off is at 6:00 for the varsity game. Hope to see you courtside.


Congratulations to the following students who qualified for the State Speech and Debate tournament to be held March 1-3 in Toledo.  In Policy Debate, the team of Lexi Weyer and Chris Schaeffer and also the team of Jamie Anderson and Nathan Spence.  Qualifying in Congressional Debate are Michael Roth, Sean Rhodes and Will Duniver.


Reminder to Seniors - Senior photos are due to the yearbook staff by February 15.  Please submit a jpeg photo to Mrs. Dow via school email by that date or tell your photographer to do so.  See Mrs. Dow if you have questions.  


The National Honors Society will be hosting a community-wide book drive from Friday, February 9th to Saturday, February 17th during Edison Appreciation Week. You can donate any gently used or new books from any age group and reading level. Books will be donated to the Early Readers Program at the elementary, the Milan Salvation Army and the local libraries. Please help us show how much we appreciate Edison Schools and community. Collection boxes are located in the library and around town.


There are still approximately 8 openings for the  ACT bootcamp!  Forms and payments should be turned into the office ASAP!


Help James Hill raise money for pediatric cancer research by donating or telling your friends about this event, Doubling the Double Double!  You can pledge any amount for every double double James has this year, or just donate a single amount.  A double double is when a player achieves at least ten of any stats in the game of basketball: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.  Visit the kick it organization website or ask James how you can support the cause today!  


Attention Math Club members:  Please pay the $5.00 dues as soon as possible.  The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics contest will be held on Feb. 24.  There is a $5.00 fee which must be paid to Mrs. Wally no later than today.  Please pick up information sheets from Mrs. Wally in room 402.

On Thursday February 8th, Spanish Club will sponsor a cultural credit learning Spanish dance for those who need it and any student who would like to attend.  The fun will be from 3:15 - 4:15 in auditorium.  Any questions please see Profesora   The National Spanish exam will be given on Tuesday March 13.  


Anyone competing this season in track...girls and boys,   A meeting will be held today after school in the auditorium.
